Member Spotlight: Ms. Malak Al-Rifai

As part of our “Meet Our Members” series, today we shine a spotlight on Ms. Malak Al-Rifai, a Syrian academic and professional based in the United States. Originally from Daraa, Syria, she works in judicial administration and support and in the development of institutional procedures.

Malak earned her bachelor’s degree from Ohio University in Criminal Justice and Communication, and went on to earn a master’s degree in Public Administration from Franklin University.

Malak has worked at the local court in Columbus, Ohio, for four years. She currently serves as Court Support Services Supervisor, in addition to her role as ADA Coordinator at the Municipal Court.

Through her work, she helps coordinate a range of cases and procedures related to forensics and psychological evaluations, liaising among judges, attorneys, hospitals, detention facilities, and psychologists to help ensure that individuals receive their rights and the services they need.

She also works closely with the court’s attorneys to review and improve procedures and processes, with the aim of increasing efficiency and ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations, including the Ohio Revised Code (ORC).

Among the most notable projects she is currently involved in is the transition to a fully electronic, paperless court, which reduces reliance on paper files and develops more efficient and sustainable digital solutions. The project reflects her interest in institutional development and in using modern solutions to improve the quality of the services provided.

Malak speaks of her deep passion for her work and her pride in the role she plays in serving the community and contributing to the development of the judicial system, affirming that her profession has become more than just a job for her: it is a real opportunity to make a positive impact.

At the Syrian American Academic Society (SAAS), we take pride in welcoming outstanding Syrian professionals from a wide range of disciplines and fields, and we value the professional and academic experience our members bring to the Society’s community.

We welcome Malak Al-Rifai and wish her continued success in her professional and academic journey.
